Miabra

I had this car waiting to be posted for a while - I didn't realize I hadn't until my previous post where I tried to reference it. Anyway, here's the Miata based Cobra I was talking about. I suppose it doesn't really look THAT bad, in a cute anime kind of way. It's like a Pokémon Cobra. Baby got back though...

Oh, my, god. Becky, look at that trunk.

They only like them, because,

Puny Car

The Mazda Miata seems to be turning into the darling of the kit world, as you can transform the car into any horribly proportioned creation you can imagine, from an Aston Martin to a Cobra. Or in this case, a early Mustang convertible.

Super Stepside

Billed as "the ultimate pickup", the Super Stepside is a bit of an oxymoron - given that the donor "truck" for this kit is full-size GM sedans from the 80's.

I first saw and posted this kit in 2005. I correctly guessed what it was made of, but thought something that looked this horrid was a homemade one-off. But it's actually available to purchase as a kit. People actually bought them, as more than one exist.

Early models such as the one posted earlier don't appear to have headlights, while the one above has some pilfered from the exotic Chevy Malibu.

Fug and Let Die

Some screen shots of the Corvorado featured in the James Bond flick, "Live and Let Die". The last two words of the title are most appropriate in this case.

The Corvorado has been featured here in the past. Basically a period Corvette styled to look like a period Eldorado, for whatever reason.

Queasy Rods: Thunderbird Fords

"Easy Rods" other available kit is one I've stumbled across before. However it now seems to be available in infinite varieties, from '49 Ford to '49 Mercurys to '55 Crown Vics. The one thing the all share though is that they're all based off the '89-'97 Thunderbird - a point that is painfully driven home if you look between the wheel wells. The early 50's designs look as attractive on the angular 80's styling of the T-Bird as Micheal Jackson wearing a poodle skirt. Almost makes the Belaro period correct.

Random thoughts: Maybe this car was inspired by Micheal Jackson, given that as he aged he started to morph into a poor representation of what Liz Taylor looked like in the 50's...

Queasy Rods: The Belaro

While searching for some better imagery of yesterday's atrocity, I stumbled across this creation. Yes - more than one person had this idea. And while yesterday's car looked homemade (although I suppose it could have been some sort of development mule for this new generation of butchered Camaros), this one is a kit you can purchase from a company called "Easy Rods".


Easy Rods' slogan pretty much sums up why the cars look the way they do: "Built in hours, not years." They're basically marketing themselves as the lazy man's route to custom cars. This Camaro based "1957 Chevy" is dubbed the Belaro. The swoopy lines of the 1993-2002 Camaro don't adapt nicely to the 50's era design, resulting in a squashed caricature of the classic Chevy. Convertibles look a bit better as most of the roofline is gone - but the sweeping windshield looks like it hit a low lying branch.



Strangely, a lot of the image of this car appear to have stock Camaro hubcaps. The don't exactly look vintage, and at the same time tell everyone that the underlying Camaro is lacking a couple cylinders.

The Belaro is a much more attractive option than Easy Rods' other bodykit, however...

1957 Camaro

I really wish I had better pictures of this. I recently found this pictures cleaning up my hard drive - they were saved to my computer in 2006 before I disappeared from blogging, and never got posted. If fact, trying to find better pictures led me to a gold mine, the spoils of which I'll be posting in the next few days.

Back to the fug at hand, this beaut seems to be a homemade attempt at turning a Camaro into a '57 Chevy. Because, you know - this concept has worked perfectly so many times before. Also, it appears to be made entirely of clay.

Astroghini

I suppose they share sharply creased edges, but the Chevrolet Astro and Lamborghini Murceilago designs do not meld well. This vans all gutted out inside for drag racing, and actually has the internals to back it up. So luckily it won't be seen long enough to let it's looks sink in.

Over the next few days I hope to bombard you with the some fugly kit kar kreations. I stumbled upon a site which has them in spades - and also managed to clear up some questions pondered in past posts (with better pics to boot). Well - not so much cleared up questions, but at least we can now point fingers at those responsible.
