Mitsubishi e-compact Concept

Mentioning this car not because it’s ugly necessarily, but because it’s completely devoid of any resemblance of style. It almost looks like someone took a Ford Fiesta and removed all the interesting design cues to create one of those unbranded generic any-cars you see in advertising. Combined with a boring and forgetful name, I doubt anyone will remember this concept next week, let alone in years to come.

Vital Evolution 7, Part 2

Found more pictures of the beloved Vital Evolution 7. And this time you can see the front end, which brings it into a whole other realm of fugliness. Sporting more home-made holes than the rear end, it also sports 350Z headlights. Not sure if the black vinyl in the older post was removed, or these pictures are pre-application. However note that the mesh has been painted yellow, and the text "Twin Turbo Formula 7" appears on the rear bumper.

Vital Evolution 7

It sounds like a bad straight to VHS movie, but Vital Evolution 7 is actually a highly customized Mitsubishi GTO/3000GT. With a paint job that looks like an experimental safety car from the 70's, it's isn't exactly stealthy. Also, I doubt covering the rear window in plastic aids rearward visibility. Or is legal for that matter. At least you don't have to worry about the giant wing blocking your vision in the rear view mirror.

Proton Instability

Some may think what we have here is a blatant case of plagiagism. However, Malaysian automaker Proton has a long history or dealing with both Lotus and Mitsubishi (with some of it's cars being Mitsubish derived), so both of these cars don't come as much of a surprise.

What is surprising though is what their idea of a facelift is. Where some might go to great length to hide their engineering cost-cutting roots, Proton saw it fit to simply paint sections matte black and overlay some of the clunkiest fender extension in recent memory. This concept stinks like a skunk and looks like one too. They also bring to mind the black and white cookie episode of Seinfeld, mainly because they makes me want to vomit.

For those who can't place the donor cars, the Jebal above is a warmed over Lancer Ralliart and the Lekir below is a similarly warmed over Lotus Europa (which itself is no longer in production).

There's rumors that the Europa could live on in Malaysia (not unlike the Elan did in Korea), which is good news for sports car fans. Unfortunately, compared to it's Lotus siblings, the Europa amounts to a average looking girl in a group of supermodels. I'll take what I can get though (as long as it doesn't look like this black and white disaster).

Acura CL Headlights and their Legacy of Fug

Back in the late 90’s, there was a disturbing automotive trend involving pimping out Acura Intergras and slapping on Acura CL headlights. The resulting creation was both horrifying and nauseating. Strangely, it’s rather difficult to find pictures of these mythical beasts on the internet. It’s possible that owners had them destroyed as their owners came to their senses. The above photo I believe is not an Integra but a Mitsubishi Eclipse (with a bonus pink fuzz interior treatment).

*EDIT* - Found a good pic of an Integra with the CL headlight conversion, complete with Z3 louvers on the fenders as an added bonus.

Audi R"Ain't"

Going to tackle a couple here. Above is a poor yet hideous rendition of the R8 in TT form. Below is a just plain sad attempt to replicate the look on a Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Total Eclipse of the Fug

Wow. If a car with a bodykit is cool, then a car with a bodykit with a bodykit must be cool squared. Same must apply for wings. And vinyl. And scoops. So this car is like cool squared squared squared squared. It's so cool it looks fugly to the ordinary bystander, because we can't comprehend how cool it is.

Hmm - where to start. Let's see - the front. It's got some kind of bodykit, with horns or fangs attached. And on it's sides it has horizontal wings from which drops down another spoiler. This surrounds an oddly small intercooler. Scissors doors are of course necessary on a car of this stature as they're expensive and make it really hard to get in and/or close them. In true ricer fashion it has a (blank) windsheild banner to try and visually lower the car. But like headlight eyelids (which surprisingly this doesn't have), it only looks cheap. Speaking of window vinyl, this one has some kinda retro 80's bumblebee stripes down the rear quarter windows. And a yellow circle for some reason.

The rear end is a mangled mess. The obligatory Altezza taillights have been squashed together to make room for more scoops for ventilation of.... I guess the trunk, or gas tank. And of course a picnic table wing.

Overall, the look is "mutant wasp from hell".

Oh and it's part of the rather vague club, "USA Motorsports". Must've taken a while to think that one up.

Break on Through to the Fugly Side...

Found this on sale on ebay...

When it comes to elaborate paint schemes, I've found a few that seem to defy logic. Most offen, people save an elaborate paint scheme - fugly or not - for the finished product. The final touch. However, this Eclipse had it applied to a relatively stock car. And of that paint job...

Man - it's ugly. Not only that, it's confusing. Exactly what is going on there? There's obviously two tears down the centre of the car, but what is "underneath"? A circus tents caught in a tornado? Also strange is that the sides of the car have absolutely no decoration.

Raiders of the Lost Fug

I don't think there's a truck out there as hideous as the Mitsubishi Raider. It's basically a rebodied Dakoda. But I think they went a little overboard in changing the look. What's with that massive grille? And the chrome bars under the headlights that make them look unnecessarily huge?
