One of a bunch of disappointing American subcompacts of the late 70's. The Chevette was the homeliest, and most likely had the worst name as well.
The above picture, taken from a period brochure, seems to illustrate that the Chevette is also the ideal vehicle in which to abandon one's children.

Bleak. That was the early 80s. Dismal. Horsepower, torque... all but evaporated. Emasculated little weiner-mobiles like this and those gawd-awful Omni 024s were everywhere. Diesel Rabbits were sooting up all creation with their all-smoke-and-no-go attempts at good fuel economy. I found I had more money by maintaining and driving the v8 rwd vehicles I currently had than to buy something "new" like THIS thing. People I knew, who DID buy these things were crabbing about 'em in short order! All the money they THOUGHT they saved in gasoline, they blew 30 times over in parts! All in all, "econo-boxes" of the 80s were just not worth it! No one saved ANY money EXCEPT the auto manufacturers.
